Texture

I am fascinated with textured clay surfaces.  This includes unglazed surfaces, exposing the texture of clay to create a tactile experience. Typically a ceramic glaze is developed to completely melt and form a uniform surface.  Texture glazes are formulated to do just the opposite.  They crack, crawl, bubble and some appear very dry.  The experiments in my studio is ongoing.

I can’t help but think about the lichens I encounter while hiking in the forests of Oregon.
